Then we went on to the market. We picked out 3 ao dais for Molly at various ages ($6 each).I found a wooden box, a set of plates, a wooden figurine, and a bag. Mom found an Vietnamese style outfit for herself (mind you, in Vietnam, she's an XL), and a few t-shirts...and we didn't even come CLOSE to spending the money we brought with us.
On our way back, we stopped by the water lady again and picked up a massive bottle of water.
Then, we went to the restaurant in the hotel.
All in all, I was rather impressed with the productivity of our afternoon adventure. We made significant strides toward self-sufficiency (which is what we all strive for when in another country, right?).
And then, of course, we promptly went to our room and fell asleep. Call it exhaustion, call it jet lag, call it adjustment...whatever it was...it was really nice. I'm hoping there will be more sleep ahead in a few hours..cause last night it was pretty hard to find.

Success! Ann- I love the outfit (if that's the one you are wearing in the picture). It sounds like you've successfully navigated two important travel tasks- walking and shopping! All of this adventuring is going to prove so useful when filling Molly in on her home country!
Continue to enjoy! I'm going to do mundane tasks like mowing my lawn and reading! So, please update often as we are all living through you right now!
Drink lots of water!!

Hello Ladies, Checking your blog every few hours, it is so much fun to relive this through you all! Glad to hear you were successful in Ben Thanh, it is a place like none other! If you get adventerous, you can exchange money in the jewlery mart on the main drag, go to the market, turn left, heading toward the opera house. On the left side of the street, you will find Marla and my favorite linen store, with the most adorable clothes ever. There is a good bookstore, too, same side of the street. On the other side of the street, there is the Tax Dept Store. Has a lot of the same stuff as Ben Thanh, (not as many stores) but it is air-conditioned! Also has a Highland Coffee shop, very nice desserts! And the Cafe Suda in Vietnam is incredible. I hope you will sleep better tonight. Thanks for bringing us along on this journey!
My best to your mom-
Fondly,
Margaret (Kiley and Macy)
What an exciting adventure! I love your descriptions of all of these new experiences. The "Frogger" approach to crossing the street seemed to be an advanced version of the game. What a challenge just to find the simple comforts like air conditioning and water! It takes time to learn the very basics of a new environment. You're doing an impressive job.
Also, it was good to see you on Skyp yesterday! What fun to see your room, also. I'm so grateful for your photos, too. You are providing a wonderful vicarious experience! THANK YOU!
Hugs,
MK
After getting some well-needed rest, you began to master shopping. Congrats!! Love your blogs; keep it up. Love, John
